X. 17:11-19:48 CONDITIONS OF KINGDOM ENTRANCE AND JESUS' DEATH
A. 17:11-19 LEPERS CLEANSED SHOULD GLORIFY GOD

And it came to pass, on the way to Jerusalem, HE also was passing

through the midst of the borders of Samaria and Galilee.
b. 17:12-13 THE CRY OF TEN LEPERS

And as he entered into a certain village, ten men, lepers, met him,

who stood up afar off: 13and they lifted up theirvoice, saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
c. 17:14a And seeing them, he said to them, Go and show yourselves to the priests.

B. 17:20-37 PRESENT ASPECT OF KINGDOM - THEN DRAGNET-HARVEST
1. 17:20-21 KINGDOM CAN BE UNRECOGNIZED

And asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of :God comes,

he answered them and said, The kingdom of :God comes not

or, There! for lo, the kingdom of :God is among you.
2. 17:22-37 VISIBLE KINGDOM WILL BRING SUDDEN DESTRUCTION
a. 17:22 A PROPHECY BY JESUS

And he said unto the disciples, Days will come,

when you shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you shall not see.
b. 17:23-24 THE NATURE OF THE RETURN OF JESUS

And they shall say to you, Lo, there! or Lo, here!

go not away, nor follow after them: 24for just as the lightning,

when it lightens out of the one part under the heaven,

c. 17:25 But first must he suffer many things and be rejected of this :generation.

d. 17:26 And as it came to pass in the days of Noah, thus shall it be also in the days of the Son of :man.

e. 17:27 A DESCRIPTION OF THAT DAY

They ate, drank, married, were given in marriage, until theday that Noah entered into the ark,

and the flood came, and destroyed all.

g. 17:31 THE SERIOUSNESS OF THAT DAY

On that :day who shall be on the housetop, and his :goods

in the house, let him not go down to take them away: and let him in the field likewise not return back.
h. 17:32 Remember the wife of Lot. mne-moNEUe-te [3421]tes gu-naiKOS Lot.
i. 17:33 A CONTRAST
hos eAN zeTEse ten psuCHEN auTOU pe-ri-poiEsas-thai [4982] a-poLEsei [622] auTEN:
Whoever shall seek to gain his :life shall lose it:
hos d' 'AN a-poLEsei zo-o-goNEsei [2225] auTEN.
but whoever shall lose hislifeshall save it alive.
j. 17:34 BED-MATES SEPARATED
LEgo huMIN, TAUte te nukTI Eson-tai DUo ePI KLInes [2825] miAS;
I say unto you, On that :night two shall be on one bed;
ho heis pa-ra-lemphTHEse-tai [3880], kai ho HEte-ros a-pheTHEse-tai [863].
the one shall be taken along, and the other shall be left.
k. 17:35 Two womenshall be grinding together; the one shall be taken along, and the other shall be left.

m. 17:37b A CRYPTIC REPLY
ho de EIpen auTOIS, HOpou to SOma eKEI kai hoi a-eTOI [105] e-pi-su-nachTHEson-tai [4863].
But he said to them, Where the body is there will the eagles also be gathered together.
NOTE: (2010-12-17) - 17:11-19 - Lepers Cleansed Should Glorify God - “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks: for this is God's will in Christ Jesus toward you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - (5:12-24).We should be open for new insights to see where and how we can give thanks to God in Christ Jesus like the Samaritan cleansed leper! And, because Jesus on earth appeared as the Son of :man, we should give thanks to our fellow man likewise. This 3-fold exhortation in this one sentence appears in a context of exhortations by the Spirit through the apostle Paul that deserves constant review.
17:20-37 - Here Jesus very clearly give us present and future aspects of the Kingdom of God that we do well to heed carefully. Just as it was a shock to the careless in the days of Noah, and Lot in Sodom - so it will be equally a shock to the careless of our day - who do nottake seriously these words of Jesus. It willhappen exactly as He has foretold, for He isthe Living Word of God, and He and the Written Word (LOgos) are one!
According to the parables of Jesus, the chaff, the wicked - will be gathered out first; thenthe wheat, the good fish, will be gathered into His garner by His angels.
We are prone to listen to our thinking; or the ideas of men - ahead of the Word of God. Foolish! What man's tradition does is to make voidthe Word of God, and bring the anger of God upon such (Matthew 15). Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settledin heaven. It changes not. Kingdoms rise and fall - Cultures come and go - but the Word of God abides constant and faithful through it all. See the following insights of George Muller from his biography by Dr. A. T. “It need not be said that to carry out conviction into action is a costly sacrifice. It may make necessary renunciations and separations which leave one to feel a strange sense both of deprivation and loneliness. But he who will fly as an eagle goes into the higher levels where cloudless day abides, and live in the sunshine of God, must consent to live a comparatively lonely life. No bird is so solitary as the eagle. Eagles never fly in flocks: one, or at most two, and the two, mates, being ever seen at once. But the life that is lived unto God, however it forfeits human companionship, knows divine fellowship, and the child of God who like his Master undertakes to 'do always the things that please Him,' can like his Master say, 'The Father has not left me alone.' 'I am alone; yet not alone, for the Father is with me.' Whoever will promptly follow whatever light God gives, without regard to human opinion, custom, tradition, or approbation, will learn the deep meaning of these words: 'Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord.'”
